Default ive been serching for a DIY

i cant find anything. im very comfortable with my mechanical abilities and i want to replace my retainers. i odnt know if they are broken but i just want to do it. so if there is a DIY that would be great.

or should i just buy a repair manual and do it that way

I don't think there is a DIY here. The manual tells you to pull the cylinder head, that is definitely NOT the way to go. The manual will help with specs and setting up the cams, but is useless for this job.

billman did mine last week in 2 hrs, but i was his 10th one and he is an expert. if you live close to long island, i highly recommend taking it to him.
or even if you dont, its worth a couple of hrs of driving each way because he does it right, quick, cheaper than any mechanic, and you get to chill with him and watch him work his magic. plus you can go to the beach if you get their early.

One tip: be sure to cover up every possible hole for the little "cotters" to fall into. They will try to get away. And a magnet on a stick helps, too.

Ive done similar jobs and always used the cotters again, but saying that never on an engine that revs to 9200rpm..If your going to replace the retainers you might as well replace the cotters too.
