I thought they may have been from a type S model? That may explain the AP1 sized front swaybar. I'll have to have a closer look at the steering rack from that partout to see if I can identify it.
Would be cool to fab up copies, that could just be pop riveted to the stock dust shields. Along with a template where to drill holes. Would probably sell a lot of them, especially if they reasonably duplicated a factory option.
Yes, it'd be easy enough to fab your own diy versions. But if someone sold a set already fabbed up, I'd buy it (at reasonable cost). Guessing others would too.
Yes, do please post pics of the shocks and springs.
From what I've seen, the front coil springs of the *very* early GH-AP1-100 cars (built April/May '99) carried a blue-yellow-red paint code, which never appeared on U.S. cars. However, I believe it's the same '00-'01 front spring that we're used to (i.e. with blue-blue-red paint code), since:
- The JDM part number is the same as for the U.S. '00-'01 front spring (51401-S2A-014);
- Around the time U.S. cars started being built, GH-AP1-100 cars also started getting the blue-blue-red paint code on their front springs; and,
- The JDM front damper part numbers remained the same after the "change" to the blue-blue-red spring.
Interestingly, the early JDM rear spring has a different "discrepancy". This spring started out with a different part number than the U.S./RoW spring (52441-S2A-004, vs. -014), but it always carried the same paint code (blue-orange-red). When the LA-AP1-110 chassis was introduced (mid-'00, just before the U.S. '01 model), the spring's part number changed to match the rest of the world -- but both the paint code and the damper part number remained the same. So again, I believe that all '00-'01 rear springs (i.e. all blue-orange-red springs) are the same.
Here's a photo of a set of springs/dampers from that very very early batch of GH-AP1-100 cars (found on JDM auction site): early GH-AP1-100 suspension
Again, I think both front and rear springs in the photo are identical to the US/rest-of-world '00-'01 springs, even though the fronts have a different paint code, and the rears have a different part number.
Note that each damper's part number sticker includes its manufacturing date; if you can get a photo of that it'll really help. If the date shown is earlier than 9904xx, then we'll know that you've actually happened to come across some pre-production parts. Look forward to seeing what you have!
