Default K&N FIPK

Just yesterday I took 3 or so hours (most of it was trying to get a metal piece out of a hose, when in the long run I didn't even need it) installing an FIPK and took it for a spin directly after. It definitely sounds different from just having the stock intake cover off. It sounds less 'hummy' and a little deeper, then in VTEC it has a more tuned sound. In addition, there is a blip you can hear when rev-matching that I've never heard before... and I've come to love that sound with very little time.

I do notice smoother and better throttle response and I really do feel that the car is noticeably faster (though not by a lot). It is seen to add 5-10 HP right as VTEC engages... which I do actually feel slightly. Again, not a huge gain - but hell for $240 and 3 hours the gain is well worth it.

This may be my paranoia but I here a sort of ticking/faint rattling when I get up past VTEC with the new intake. The only way I can describe the sound is that it is a faint ticking. I'm not quite sure what this is and it has become audible after the install. I'm sure it's an engine characteristic I've never been able to hear before... but part of me is scared I may have set something up incorrectly (even though I double/tripple checked the install manual & online DIYs)... but maybe a hose isn't attached tight enough? I'm not sure.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about and hears a faint ticking after VTEC please let me know so I can keep my sanity. Other than that, I haven't been this pleased spending $240 in a very long time.

I really want to get one. I hope to this summer.

Perhaps the ticking is just being able to hear the VTEC crossover more clearly? Not sure...

It isn't a single tick... it sort of oscillates and grows in intensity as you get closer to red line.

probably something that has always been there. the intake just makes it more audible. take it to someone if you think it's an issue.

I mean I had the battery disconnected for 2 hrs, then connected it after the installation... and immediately after when the engine warmed up, drove the shit out of it. Is there some other way to reset it that I don't know about?

Would have that been affected by putting a new intake in though?

oh ok. your good then. thats what i mean by it.

also im pretty sure the ticking is not because of the intake. maybe that noise was already there and since you just put the intake you are trying to look/hear for differences
