Default K&N intakes for the S

So I am checking into a K&N intake for the S.

I have found you have two different intakes listed for the Honda S2000. The first part # is 57-3514 and says it fits 2001 -2003 2.0L and 2004-2005 2.2L motors. Then you have part number 63-3514 that says it fits 2005-2006 2.2L motors.

What I don't understand then is what is the difference if both intakes will work on the 2005 2.2L?

Can I use either or on my 2001 2.0L?

I believe the 57 is legal in all 50 states whereas the 63 is not.

I guess I am just curious as to why both will fit the 2005 but will not be cross compatible with the others.

But that site really doesn't tell you what the difference is.

I would get the 57 too. Just in case PA has strict emission standards.

Sounds like your question has been answered, but I'll just add a similar email exchange I had with K&N regarding pretty much the same question.

My question:
I own a 2005 Honda S2000 and would like to purchase a K&N FIPK for it. Your website says that part 57-3514 is compatible with the 2000 through 2004 models of the Honda S2000 and the 2005 model year requires part 63-3514. Could you tell me what the differences between these parts are and if the 57-3514 would work on the 2005?
Their email response:
Thank you for your interest in K&N products. the difference in the two parts that you are referring to is the C.A.R.B. exemption. The 57- kits are 50 state legal for the vehicles that they are designated to fit. The 63- kits are not yet approved by CARB as a 50 state legal kit. The physical properties of the kit are the same, but if you put the 57- number on your application it will be considered a 63- application. If you have any further questions feel free to give us a call at 1-800-858-3333.
