Default K20 cam caps

It looks like the K20 cam caps and VTEC rockers is very similar to the F2x cam cap and rockers. If anyone has a spare set K series cam caps would they mind measuring them?

OK, they are not the same, they might measure the same(I'm still not sure), but the K series has variable valve timing, the last cam cap is too big, it won't fit in the F2X cylinder head. You would have to machine the first and last cam cap to fit, provided of course they measure the same otherwise.

Right. I'd have been extremely surprised if both lined up/measured up perfectly from the get go. Why this question though?

Saw a post about broken cam caps and started thinking they're getting really hard to come by now. If these can be made to work with a little machining it may be a worthwhile replacement. I can find K20 cam cap sets for $50 a piece, do 20 min of machining then sell them for $150.

Oh. Might be a worthwhile service to offer as time goes on

Maybe I'm wrong, but... aren't the cam caps line bored with the head? Meaning, you can't/shouldn't just swap them out with different ones?

The cam caps are line bored for the cam shaft itself. The reason you want the matched set is not for the head, but so that you have straight bores for the camshaft. Obviously, if the bores in the caps are offset, from the line the camshaft is machined on, you can potentially cause issues like seized cams, destroyed journals which lead to a loss of oil pressure, and other.

You'd have an easier time boring the cam caps and having traditional bearings installed. Companies like dura-bond make them.

Interesting idea, maybe better than replacing the whole set if you only snapped one.
