Default Key broken off in ignition.

Long story short, S2000 involved in an accident, key broke off in ignition switch, unable to tun key or start car.

If you have a fix that will compromise security for all S2000 owners then please feel free to PM me.

Thanks in advance.

ps: No this was not my car, just trying to help a friend.

The key snapped and piece of it is in the ignition? Tweezers or pliers maybe? Did it break clean off at the surface or is it wedged inside the tumbler?

The black part of the key (chip) is broken off. The rest of the key is inside the tumbler. I havent gotten too crazy with tools yet. Just gathering info for now.

Thanks again for all the PMs.

So I'm assuming the ignition switch is still in the ON position, correct? So before trying to pry key out, you'll need to turn ignition off, to tje position key is normally pulled out.

I suggest you try and use a small screwdriver or something for that. Obviously you want to make sure steering wheel is pulling against its stop. May have to have a second person hold wheel to alleviate pressure, while person 1 tries to turn off ignition.

Then dental picks. Harbor Freight has some cheap. You'll want tje ones with long skinny metal handles, not the ones with orange handles.

I like that idea. Get one of those tool retrieval magnets while at HF. They have more than one type. One has way stronger magnet than the other. The one you want should uave a black rubber handle, and the head with magnet is almost as big around as a quarter, with a knurled end about half inch thick.
