Default Key Wont Turn in Ignition!

Ok, so yet one more problem with my '01...

My key is now not turning in the ignition cylinder/tumbler. The steering wheel is not locked or anything like that. I searched around but there are no discreet answers. Most people just have problems with the beeping noise.

It worked fine before, and now all of a sudden it wont turn!!! It makes the damn beeping noise but will not turn. The key itself is not bent, it unlocks and locks the doors.

Any one have any ideas?

I have a spare parts car that I may try swapping the cylinder locks out with. Or just call a locksmith tomorrow morning.

Try turning the wheel really, really hard in one direction and try again. If that doesn't work, try turning it really, really hard in the other direction. If you are parked on a hill, this will likely free up your tumbler.

is there a way of removing the key cylinder? It looks the bolts that hold it in are rivoted or something of that nature. Looks like I may have to swap the entire steering column!!

Anyone?

Do you always use your key to open the car doors? After 7 years, your key may be getting dull, so its not opening the lock properly. You could try getting a new master key at the dealership.

If it's like the cylinder on my Accord, they have shear-head bolts. The heads of the bolt shears off when you torque it. That means you'll have to drill them out and replace them with new bolts.

thanks for all your help guys, but I ended up calling a locksmith to come out and fix it. When he took out the tumbler, it turns out that there was debris inside that prevented it from turning. I have no idea how that debris got in there, but Im just happy its fixed ($200 later yikes!!)
