Default knocking from rear end

Hey, I have an 00 s2000 with around 98,000 miles. The other day I was driving about 15-20 miles an hour and when I let off the gas and started coasting and could hear a knocking sound coming from the left rear of the car. It does not happen all of the time but it seems to be aroung 10-18 miles an hour when I hear it most. It could be happening at higher speeds but the road noise may be hiding it. I took the car to my friends shop and we put it on the lift. we didn't see anything loose so we put it down and I left. Today I jacked the rear left of the car up and tried to turn the wheel(car was in neutral and the parking break was off) the wheel did not turn freely and seemed to get hard to turn at one point. There was also a clunking sound, it may have been coming from the diff, I also put my hand on the diff and seemed like I could feel it when it knocked as i turned the wheel.

Do you think I need a new diff? I have had the rear end poping fixed before and I have had the cv joints replaced too. three weeks ago I had koni shocks eibach springs and cross drilled and slotted rotors put on. do you think honda will try to blame it on my mods. My warranty ends at 100,000 miles. I very rarely drop the clutch(maybe once every three months) And I don't track the car. I have had a spec stage II clutch for about 9000 miles.

Maybe your brakes are binding or dragging? You should be able to hear them dragging when you turn the wheel by hand. A small amount of rubbing noise is normal but you'll know it if it's really holding the wheel back.
That noise from the diff is disconcerting. If it continues, it might be time to take it apart and inspect it, put new bearings in. Have you been changing the diff fluid regularly? An analysis on the old fluid could tell a story.
Although you've had the hub nuts checked and tightened, after almost 100K miles, your wheel bearings may be on their way out, too. This generally manifests itselfs with a hum or whine from the wheel hubs.

No I never hear any hums or whines from the wheels. I guess the breaks could be the problem when they put the rotors on they changed the pads too. what would be done to fix that? when both of the rear wheels were lifted and I turned them I didnt hear any noise, but when just the left was up it would make noise and it seemed like I could feel it when my hand was on the diff. Honda changed the diff fluid a long time ago. they said it didnt need to be done very often. how often should it be done? Should this be covered under the warranty? I have the certified used car waranty until 100,000 miles and honda care until 100,000 miles. thx for the help

If you have only one side jacked up, you may be fighting the resistence of the diff from having the other side on the ground. This might not be a good test.
Diff fluid should be changed annually, more often if you track the car, drive it hard or do higher than average mileage. Every 10K miles is a good reference point. I'm surprised that the dealer would tell you not to change it often as the diff in this car is one of its weak points. Techs generally know NOTHING about this car.
As for the warranty, you can always try a claim.

As for the brakes, it should feel the same with both sides jacked up and you turn each side. If one is harder to turn than the other, then it's more likely to be brake related.
