Default Leaky Clutch Master

Just noticed that my CMC is leaking, it is 16yrs old so I am not surprised. I think I will replace the slave while I am at it. I found slave/CMC kits on EBay reletivly cheap, but they are Nissan not in Honda packaging. Does anyone have any experience with these? Is this a part where it is best to get OEM in OEM packaging or can I save some $? Also do I need to place the hose at the same time?

Nissin! Not Nissan. They make some other OEM s2k parts too. I remember seeing that name on my brakes when I replaced my rear calipers with OEM from another s2k.

I replaced my clutch master/slave but did not change the hose. I never had any issues but that was a few years ago on my first s2k.

You should first try gravity bleeding the clutch reservoir and wipe the leaking area. Then change the clutch reservoir fluid with a turkey baster every time you change your oil/every 3000 miles and see if it still leaks.

If it still leaks, you should stick with the OEM Honda parts.

i am a bit confused how this will fix the leaking though. If it leaks it leaks correct?

Nope.

Seals get dried out, dirt gets trapped with old fluid. Get it clean and keep it clean.

ok so you recommend giving the bleed a shot as well? I don't have a problem doing this IF it will work. I have had shifting issues, mostly getting into first gear from a stop. I should note that it has fresh fluid as I had the clutch done ~5k miles ago. Also it was squeaky ~10k ago so I tossed grease on the shaft. Right now the grease appears wet and I get a suction sound. Like I said I don't mind saving $, but the car is on jackstands being worked on for the winter, so if the end result is likely to replace them I just prefer do it now. Maybe I should give a gravity bleed a shot though as I guess it could have air from when it was done with the clutch.

For future reference though is this actually OEM or is it false advertisement?

+1 This worked for me and the leaking went away on my OEM MY00 CMC.

The worlds premier S2000 mechanic Billman states most leaking MC's can be fixed with fresh, clean fluid, and keeping it clean.

It does seem odd this would work. If I had to guess, the reason why would be the contaminants that make the fluid dark include particles, which when they get on the seals, cause a sort of high spot that leaves a bit of gap between seal and metal, allowing a leak.

Honda uses nissin parts. This one probably doesn't come in a Honda box (=price x 2) But as long as it's a real nissin pump, you should be fine.
