Letting car sit without oil

Letting car sit without oil
So I drained my oil about a month ago with goal of getting a UOA and using the results to decide if I want to look at the rod bearings when I toss on a baffle. Results came back good and I don't think I will investigate beyond wiggling the rod and checking for play. The thing is I still have not dropped the pan to toss in the baffle! I hope that I get to it this weekend, but who knows. Is letting the car sit like this any different then just letting it sit with oil? Letting it sit all the oil just mostly sits in the passages and pan anyway right and presumably there is still the same residue that would exist either way. Or am I wrong and is not having the passages full of oil a bad thing and I need to get oil back in it ASAP?

As long as you don't run the engine you are good as the oil has surface tension and there is oil on all parts, the oil level rests below all moving parts until the car is started.

Your engine will never know the difference. The oil in the bearings won't be displaced, and all of the remaining parts will have some oil on them. No issues I can see. Post up the UOA info.

Not too bad at all, certainly nothing abnormal from the previous 10k. I will still check for play and check the pan for metal. That previous one convinced me that I need a baffle though, one track in particular was rough as indicated by loosing so much via my catch can!!

I would place a sign or placard someplace obvious to prevent you or someone else inadvertently attempting a start and thereby destroying the engine. Common in aviation, when working on a system a placard is placed to remind an operator from energizing a system to avoid damage to things or people.
It is similar to removing ammunition from a cleaning bench. You don't want to become a statistic from accidentally discharging a weapon.

Bgoetz, that is a pretty good UOA report. There isn't anything fancy with the additive package of that oil, but your engine must have liked the extra viscosity and film strength of the latest run.
