Default Limited-Slip Differential Problems on 2003 Model/Whislening Noise

Recently I purchase a Brand New 2003 S2000.

I had to take it into service cause there was a whislening noise
at 65mph. They said the noise was coming from the transmission. They
changed the transmission fluid to a thicker one. They told me to
drive it over the weekend, if it is still making the whislening sound
bring it back. Well, I took it into service today and they will be changing
the Limited-Slip Differential, Honda is shipping this item overnight and
my car should be ready tomorrow evening. Have any of you had this problem,
or am I the only one?

I'm *very* surprised they agreed to swap it out before it actually broke... Is there more to this story? Was the sound particularly loud and obnoxious? Or do you just have a good relationship with your dealer? Or what?

Anyway, good for you that Honda is taking care of you instead of waiting until after it breaks and claiming abuse. I hope they get you back up and running soon.

Later,
Joe

I had this car less then a week.

I had to pickup this car from another dealership, dealer trade.
Car only had 28miles driving off the lot.
I went with the driver to pickup the car and noticed the sound driving back.
At first I thought it was a loose ground wire but turned out to be something else.
So, they knew about this problem from the start.

Hopefully everything will be fixed.

I wonder if your car is like the one in the story posted here a few weeks ago about the dealership owner's teenage son taking a brand new car (with the plastic wrap still on it) and doing donuts in the back lot. That would fry a diff in no time.

hmmm my 03 makes that noise also, and so does my friends 00, sounds somewhat like a supercharger whine at low rpm, i thought it was normal for all s2000's its almost. its very quiet, almost unnoticable,
my friend told me that you hear this just because you sit very close to the differential.

if anyone else has heard this noise and brought thier car back and they declaired this as a problem please let me know.

Check your rear wheel wells. Do you see bits of rubber splattered all over it? It might be too late if you've been through rain which may have washed it off. Unless you've been smoking your tires, bits of rubber in the wheel well is a tell-tale sign that someone smoked 'em before you got it.

Donuts fry differentials? How many donuts do you think it would take to ruin a differential?

And how come all the fun stuff screws up the car!

i think my car also makes that noise, it sounds like whirling noise every 10 seconds or so when im cruising on the freeway. if you have the radio on, you can not even hear it. you hear when you're really paying attention to it. i think its normal.
