Default Little notch changing into second

Nothing too serious but just wondered if it's common. Changing from 1st to second it feels like just before it sits in second there's a small notch I have to take the gearstick past which is a little annoying if your shifting lightly coasting around town and it doesn't go in gear!

Also mine seems partial to not going in 3rd gear perfectly either feels a little spongy and kinda pops out straight after I put it in. My mind recognises this although it feels like it's in so I don't end up engaging my clutch just in time to double check it's in and half the time it isn't lol! Maybe i'm not being forceful enough.

I have the big 54k service coming up so will get them to change gearbox fluids as well, could this help do you think?

My 2nd gear is a bit notchy when it's cold out and the gearbox hasn't warmed up yet, then it's fine after driving for a bit. 3rd has a strange engagement also but nothing that has bothered me much, and it certainly hasn't popped out of gear. When's the last time the trans fluid was changed?

Not sure in truth, previous owner said he had fluids changed etc but nothing in service book to say it has had it done. Is it an easy job for the mechanic to do during the service? So potentially never I guess!

It doesn't pop out when it's engaged (sorry a bit misleading!) just feels a little weird going in, to the point it's deceptive in getting me to think it's in gear when it's not always!

Yer I think the notch in second gets less noticeable when it's warmed up a little too. Sound similar

Same here, but no popping out here. I think it's normal. It gets much smoother as the car warms up though. Try using a heavy countersunk knob and it'll less noticeable.

Normal.

S2K gearbox is clunky and notchy from 1st to second when cold.
Shouldn't be popping out of gear though, change the fluids.

I haven't experienced the "partial engagement" on the S2, but I have with other cars. Do you have the original shift knob? Having a slight weight to it may help (I think the stock knob is perfect, but that's just me). Otherwise what you're experiencing doesn't sound like a big deal, and like others said is fairly normal for the S2 transmission. I would suggest changing the fluid out with Honda MTF and see how it feels afterwards, certainly can't hurt anything . It's a straightforward job, here's a DIY that should help: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/565...id-change-diy/

I had a notch too with that would go away when hot at around your mileage. Then I started to hear a slight buzz when I first started the car as well.

It turned out I needed to regrease the shifter assembly.

Just spent $35 on all the various parts (urea grease, spring, pivot cover, insulator, seat and boots) to re-grease this over the weekend. Can't think of a better thing to be doing on a holiday weekend.
