Default Longest oil change interval?

I am planning on going 9,000 miles on my Mobil 1 synthetic oil 5W-30 and a Honda oil filter.

Anyone done oil analysis at this mileage level? The oil is still at the top mark, no burn-off and it actually still looks a bit golden.

I do a lot of highway driving, but do run the car very hard on occasion. My wife almost passed out in my garage when she walked by my car after a hard run. Brake and tire burning smell.

I'd personally spend the $30 on parts and change the oil.

EDIT: My worry is not the oil. It's about using the Honda filter for that long. If the mileage interval is 7,500, then I'd expect the honda filter to last about that long.

If you are not doing a controlled oil analysis using a lab then you are just guessing and should be changing oil at no more than 7500 mile intervals.

I'll second the 7500 mile interval. When you change the oil then, send a sample off to a lab to get analyzed. Blackstone Labs (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/) is who I've used in the past. Always better safe than sorry and all that.

Judging that Mobil 1 EP is guaranteed for 15,000 miles (24,000 kms) and costs just two dollars more, and Mobil 7500 is guaranteed for 7500 miles and costs a little less, a 9000 mile OCI can be done as long as:

*Engine is well maintained and in good condition
*Frequently driven on the highway or extended long trips
*Not driven in dusty area

Thanks for the info, guys. I may do that oil analysis to see how the oil held up to the extended change interval.
