Unhappy Lost my oil cap

Alrightin a movie of compleate incompitance I changed my oil and did not trighten the engine oil cap enough. While I was driving it stated to rattle and before I could stop it fell out and oil splashed up into the engine compartment. The check engine light also came on. The cap is somewhere in the engine compartment, though I have yet to find it I can hear it ratteling around. Im taking the car to have its codes run tomorrow but was looking for any advice on how to clean the engine compartment and what the check engine light might be for. Thanks guys.

They normally get stuck between the firewall and transmission.

Does anyone know how I would go about cleaning the engine bay? There is oil behind the engine.

WD-40 usually works for me. Also, simple green works too.
