Default LOUD noise when taking off.

Whenever I leave my car in the garage for any more then a day or so, when I start it up, it is ok. Whenever I take off, its like it has trouble then i hear a POP CRACK from the rear of the car. Is this because I left my ebrake on overnight? I mean, I've never had this happen to me before, and for this to happen to my S is killin me everytime I park it for a day.

I've been having a similar experience.

When I back out and apply the brakes, it sounds like a spring loaded mechanism has just become unstuck.

Probably just means time for a little lubrication... You know, maintenance.

Don't worry about it. It's the pads shifting fore and aft in the caliper.

It's just one of those noises that make your knees go weak, but in reality do no harm.

I'm with alex....My car and many others do it as well. It is normal, depends on your area, temp, humidity, etc.

Good. I thought for sure it was something in my diff that was getting stuck and just ripping things apart when I take off. My car is a 00 model, but it only has 40k miles on it, so I didnt think it should be doing that. Thanks alot guys

This problem has been discussed many times before. Apparently the brake pads sort of adhere to the rotors (rust/oxidization/whatever). When you first start rolling, it has to brake this adhesion loose, and that's what you feel/hear. I've only had it happen to me one time, and it was after I had jus washed the car and parked it over night. My car doesn't see much rain, which would be the other likely cause, so I don't experience it that much.

Interesting. How could one "guesstimate" the diff between the brakes poping vs the axle nut poping?

For example, in my case from the passenger rear I hear a loud pop when backing out of my garage.

Brake popping only happens after the car has sat for a period of time usually with moisture present. The emergency brake must have been on. This is very loud.

The rear axle pop happens everytime you start out.

TwiztedS2K,
To be sure, park it and chok the tires, leaving the e-brake off and see if it still does it in the morning.

ahh, well if thats the test then I need to check into the axle nut thing.

Any particular grease needed or directions on the site? I have done a few searches and see it's talked about, just not described in great detail.
