Default Low compression Cyl #3 . HELP please.

I have a 00 with 184k miles. Recently , I felt lack of power and then a week later misfire codes came up. P0300, p0301, p0303 and p0304. I changed the plugs and swapped the coils around, same results.

I did a compression test with these results:

Cyl 1 : 220 psi
Cyl 2 : 220 psi
Cyl 3 : 160 psi dry and 190 wet ( a cap of oil )
Cyl 4 : 220 psi

So does this look more like my seals are done in cyl 3 or could it be bent valve or cracked retainers?

What should be my next step? I don't want to spend more then 1000-1500 to completely fix this issue.

Will a valve adjustment possibly fix the low compression or is it too low that something else has to be wrong?

Thank you all for the help. This sucks because I only had the car for less than 2 months.

Possibly a fried piston ring if compression went up during a wet test

Anyone have a ball park on ring replacement ? Sound like replacing the whole motor would cost less ?

Have a leakdown test done to determine exactly where the issue is.

Bad ring would result in random misfires?

How much is fair for a leak down test.

Anything more than a 10% leak in a cylinder is definetly suspect.

you may have more than one thing wrong. i agree with the rest of the bunch, a leak down test should help pinpoint any more issues. i do my own work, so sorry i don't have the going rate for one.
more than likely your cylinder wall is scratched, haven't heard of too many rings going out on these motors, but always a possibility. if it is the cylinder wall i think the consensus is to get a used bottom end.

notice any stumble at idle?? any other symptoms besides the dtc's and low on power? while you have the cover off next time look for damaged/cracked retainers. check the stickies for examples and pics.

by the way, you have an ap1... do yo know about the oil consumption issues? were you keeping an eye on the oil levels? you seem like you've already have a fair knowledge of these cars just wanted to make sure.

going rate for a leakdown check would be 1 hour of labor. shouldnt take longer than that.
