Default Low (deep) humming noise

I get a low humming noise most obvious when making turns left or right. I also noticed this noise a couple times while going straight on the freeway. It ll make a low humming/ groaning noise which has been getting louder and louder. Couple people have suggested either my diff or my wheel bearings. Took it to a local shop and they couldnt find the source of the noise. While driving it seems the noise is up front but the mechanic thinks its from the rear.

anyone have any idea what it could be?

TIA

Drive in circles in opposite directions, putting weight on the bear will make the noise, shifting the weight off the bear will quite the noise.

It's how to troubleshoot if it's a wheel bearing. When you take a sharp turn, depending on the direction should get either louder or quieter.

If it doesn't change, I would keep driving until it gets loud enough to change it's volume by turning.

Changing your diff fluid wouldn't hurt either, just make sure you put the proper stuff in.

(Unless both are going at the same time, rare but not impossible)

I believe you can also jack the car up and check for play in the wheel.

BUT i'm not 100% sure on this one

I'd be willing to bet money it's your wheel bearings. I had the same symptom's with no play when I shook the wheel.. Ended up being a bad wheel bearing and hub.

cool thanks man! i was wondering wether i should pull the trigger on just replacing the wheel bearings or not. I guess i ll try it now though since most people are recommending me to just replace them and see if the noise goes away
