Default Made a mistake, will I be ok. Reset the CEL.

My car got a CEL over a month ago, I was very sure it was nothing big so I just reset it. It just came on while I was on the freeway going over 90mph.

I reset the light the next day and then fueled my car, I noticed the gas cap was not tight. When I took it off it didn't click and came off with ease. I've been over a month since then and the light never came back on. I've driven a little over a thousand miles since then, should I be ok in assuming that the lose gas cap caused the CEL. Since the light came on when I was going over 90 on the freeway, I'm ASSuming that maybe the change in speed caused a fluctuation in pressure in the gas tank because the gas cap was loose.

What do you guys think.

I think you shouldn't make assumptions and not clear CELs until you know for sure what it is. One day, it'll hurt big time.

Honestly?

I think you're a moron. the CEL is there for a reason, its not there so you can "just reset it" . Next time you are "very sure its nothing big" is when it will bite you hard in your ass.

Next time pull the code so you know for sure what caused the CEL. Us telling you everything will be ok does not make problems go away.

Pull the code and do a search and you will have more piece of mind in knowing you actually fixed the issue.

there is a TSB on 02-03 and o3 S2k's that have a damaged gas filler and the gas cap won't seal properly because of that. I'd go by the honda service dept and get the TSB done.

Which is why I put I made an "ASSumption." Because it was a stupid move.

Now that we all know I made a stupid decision.

Could the gas cap cause the CEL to come on, since it never came back on. If it would have came back in a week, then i would have worried.

Not likely you'll get both.
The gas cap/fuel filler neck will be the code for fuel tank system (P01456).
The other EVAP code will be for the cannister system (P01457).

Coming in here and saying you cleared a cel code... Well you're better off handing a loaded gun to a 3 year old.

Too many people have cleared codes without knowing what it is and have their car require a few $K to fix, when if they'd read the code to begin with it would have cost a couple hundred.
