Default Mainshaft difference between AP1 and AP2

Hi..seems Part for the AP1 mainshaft

23210-PCY-000 is discontinued and the part thats available is 23210-PCY-010 but says its for the 2003-2009 S2000..

does anyone know if the mainshaft is changed phisicaly or its just a new part number..have anybody had a chance to have AP2 and AP1 mainshafts in hand or have put a AP2 spec mainshaft in a AP1 tranny? would it be safe to assume it would fit in any transmission?
i have searched and havent found any useful info.

I don't know the difference but it seems the updated part is from 2004 not 2003.
The facelifted AP1 did get the new part number from 2004 as well.

The AP2 main shaft is for 2004-2009 transmissions only. I would give PuddyModRacing@Tampabay.rr.com an email as he knows the insides of these, but I'm pretty sure this part won't work in a AP1 transmission. Unfortunately this isn't the only AP1 transmission part that is discontinued.

How often do these go out? Mileage based? wear and tear? If I found one for an AP1, should I buy it and hold onto it?

The only difference between the two(which matters) Is the flange ends have a different size bolt so unless you change the flange on your diff and transmission to match it would not bolt up. But you can get ap2 diff and trans flanges and swap them on to get a ap2 driveline to work. Again its just the bolts are bigger on the ap2 mount ends. When you swap in a ap2 rear end or trans into your ap1, its the same deal, you need to swap the ap1 flanges on to them so will bolt up to the original ap1 driveline.

I think you mistaken this thread and thought the OP was asking about the driveshaft

He's asking about the transmission's main shaft #2 below

So still no real answer..there is something different ..but i dont know if its something that it omits the ussage of the ap2 mainshaft in the ap1 tranny..
i have 2 trannys with the mainshaft gear teeth shaven off and a friend blew his so..3 trannys with need of a mainshaft and everything else is fine in the units...
thats the gear teet that drive the 2nd gear..and since 2nd gear is most abused torque wise they seem a weak link..and shave off..maybe newer model is better quality? I dont know.

This is something Ive been meaning to try.

From what I remember, the tooth count is the same. There is one visual difference that I can see, and that is tiny notches/dots on the center of each tooth on the AP2 shaft.

IMO right now, it will work. The part wont go to waste, as AP2 trans can break second gear the same way.

Id imagine all those trans need second gear as well?

Top to bottom in that pic, gears 345621.
