Default Maint Req'd flashing

I checked the oil this morning and it was low so I added a quart. I thought this was kind of weird as I had the oil changed 2 weeks ago. How did I go through so much oil in 2 weeks? I checked it last week and it seemed fine, it was within the lines. Any ideas?

Start paying attention to the smell of you car.

Drive with the top down, windows down and try to smell any burning oil when you come to stop lights.

Well, Maintenance Required light usually flashes when you hit about 5K miles since an oil change. It stays on when you hit 5500 or whatever. If I recall. It's not the same as a Check Engine light or oil light so I don't think you have anything to worry about? But more people feel free to chime in.

Sometimes when they change the oil they don't reset the thing.

I assume this would be a bad thing. I always drive with my top down but I don't smell oil burning but then again, I haven't tried to smell it.

I'm going to assume they didn't reset it but I'm due for another oil change in about 1500 miles. But still it prompted me to check my oil and it was low. I'm going to run a compression test and leak down this weekend. I still need a valve adjustment but don't know of any good reliable shops that don't charge up the yingyang in SoCal.

The "Maintenance Req'd" light is a dummy light that comes on after so many miles. Reset it and don't worry about it.

Seriously people. There are three ways that it can be dropping that fast. Into the pcv from hard tracking, out of the filter/drain bolt, or out the tailpipe from worn rings. Look at the pcv line, check the o-ring=washer, and look at the tail pipe.

tom, PM alexs2200 for all your needs. he's highly recommended in socal and does GREAT work! He just opened a shop too. As for your oil problem...are you getting into VTEC a lot? A little while ago I found out I was super low on oil and my oil light was on as well and I added 4 Quarts!! Got a compression test from alexs2200 and my engine was 230 across the board except for 225 on one cylinder.

INTJ: what are we suppose to look for when looking at the tail pipe? Oil? My tips are black but I was thinking it's just from running rich.
