Default maintenance

So I just picked up a 2003 S2000. Unfortunately it didnt come with any manuals. I was wondering how often I should change my oil and what kind of oil I should use.

Any suggestions?

every 3000-3500miles, use amsoil 10w30...btw if you just picked the car up I would change all fluids to be safe especially if you don't know the maintaince records

My 09 rio yellow with 31K had everything but the owners manual. I downloaded it from the Honda owners link website and had it printed and bound at FedEx office for about $20 (b&w). Small pages to match original.

I also ordered Honda shop manuals, second edition and the electrical too, from "carboagez" on ebay. I spent about $110 for both, you can get earlier years for less. I like the paper ones to work off rather than messing with a computer. Your call; you can download manuals too. You can also find all the DYI on this forum as well as S2000 forum for changing fluids and more.

You should change out everything as a baseline. Its not that hard to do most of it yourself. Just be safe and make sure you are using jackstands properly and tell someone when you are underneath.
I looked at Bob the oil guys website, boned up on oil, (thought I had it down at age 57 but I learned some new things) and switched to Mobil 1 synthetic 0-30 from Walmart ($25 for 5 qts).

I used Honda MTF for the transmission but I think I will try Amsoil next. Used Mobil 1 75W-90 synthetic gear oil for the diff. I whimped out and had the dealer bleed the brakes (great special). I swapped the clutch fluid several times from the reservoir till it was clear.

Also recommend you take a look at tightening the rear wheels spindle nut (see billman's writeup and mine on S2000) I was surprised how loose mine was.

Good luck!

Yep...change EVERY fluid front to back.

Many diff opinions/experiences on the oil & filter.Over the years I've tried just about every full syn oil out there.Based on UOA's,I run Amsoil 0w30 in all my cars listed below and use K&N air filters and Wix oil filters.

Also run Amsoil MTF & 75w110 diff fluid.

The Wix oil filter # is 51334.

Thank you all for the response. I had no idea there is so much stuff to consider. I dont really drive my s2k on a daily basis, its mainly just a weekend car. But once I get some money saved up, Ill definitely look into getting everything done.

depending how hard you run your car then it varies on how many miles until the next change if you use synthetic of course. changing it every 3000 miles is a waste of money especially when amsoil costs like 14 a quart.

I run Amsoil Signature Series 0w-30. Change mine every 8-10k and use an OEM filter that I change around 4k

Yeah 3500 miles on amsoil is a waste of money. That oil goes a nice 7500-10K miles depending.

As stated change every oil front to back and I'd look into the coolant. It is due based on age and may not have been done.

You want to take care of these things soon (trans, diff, oil and filter, air and cabin filter, clutch fluid).

The supplies are fairly cheap; you may have to spend some money on tools (low profile jack, 4 jack stands, torque wrench, etc).

With the DIY’s here on s2ki, you’ll be able to take care of these with ease.
