MAP sensor surge question
Was driving as normal last week and would enter VTEC at highway speeds (3rd or 4th), the engine would seem normal, then bog down (similar to what happens on cars with traction control ) for fractions of a second, then go back to normal, repeat.
Is this the MAP sensor problem or something worse? My car doesn't burn a drop of oil, I checked it afterwards and it was still at the full mark. How easy is it to fix?

Test it by doing the "MAP whack" and ECU reset. If this resolves it and it comes back later, then you know what you have to do (get the new MAP sensor and attachment system).

I reseated the MAP sensor, problem went away. How much is the new version of the sensor? thanks.
However, having said that, it's also been determined that Honda MAP sensors for this car has a wide range of acceptable performance parameters.
There is a thread here showing the new Honda MAP thing. Here's my "crazy glue zip tie" thing:
Honda has a TSB on this. You must demonstrate that your car meets the criteria for intermittent hesitation on acceleration. If you can't show this, then it's up to you to pay for the new fastener system.
OR, you can get your own zip tie and crazy glue at the hardware store.
ps. The installation of a VAFC may induce a CEL for other reasons. The MAP "fix" may not be your solution.

If you get a CEL after a VAFC install/tune for a low MAP sensor reading, it's the VAFC causing the problem.
A hammer and zip tie isn't going to be the cure.
