I personally wouldn't know what to do. I'm not mechanically inclined.

you can get a used ap1 longblock for ~2000 shipped, then you're looking at ~1500 (or less) for installation.

probably 1-2 weeks of downtime

I would keep it and replace the long block. See if a local member would help you swap engines to save on cost.

Keep it, with lightly used new motor and have fun. It'll be almost new. Could put another 120K on it. That's likely your cheapest option.

Consider tax on another purchase will get pretty close to your motor cost, less labor.

Excuse my ignorance (I suck at mechanics)... If I need an engine... what is a long block? Or is that just just a synonym?

I'm answering my own question here:

Short block = the engine block without the head (block casting, pistons, rods, crank, etc.)
Long block = the complete engine, including the head (engine from valve cover to oil pan)

Alright... so a long block would include everything I need. How can I locate a quality mechanic or shop in New Jersey (Jersey Shore.. I'm in belmar.. 07719).

^^Throw a request up on the local forums, I am sure you will find some help in Jersey. Honestly, someone who knows what they are doing could throw a new engine in in a weekend.

If i were you i would get an expert opinion from mechanices that know about our vehicles and have him inspect the vehicle to eliminate all the possibilities of damages and find exactly what problem it was.

whats the evidance of nitrous? id be more interested to see that.

if he based that on a small hole in the intake tube the guy might be wayyyyy off on his diagnosis.
