The engine speed does not double when you downshift. It would only increase RPMs by the same number of RPMs that it would drop when you upshift. For example (hypothetical situation) if the RPMs normally drop from 8,000 rpms to 6,000 rpms when you upshift, they would increase from 8,000 RPMs to 10,000 RPMs when you accidentally shift down one gear at redline.
lol funny. They only dropped the redline on the US models on the AP2?
The US models were the only ones to increase displacement from 2.0 to 2.2 liters, hence the lower 8k rpm redline due to the longer stroke. Non-US markets still have the 2.0 in their AP2s, so there was no reason to lower the redline.

Lol....

Well first off, I'm pretty sure you are wrong about the RPM thing. They dont change by the same amount up and down.

Secondly, not all "non-AP2s" are the same. Japan got f22 in 06, everywhere else (non US) kept the f20 (i think).

my over rev in March 2010 just now gave me a CEL(misfire). turns out I have a couple of very slightly bent valves so I am having ALL 16 valves replaced with SS, replacing retainers with AP2s... My car runs perfectly and has for the last 18 months, VTEC is no problem and it runs to 9000 RPM- no problem.. in the shop as of yesterday

Well if you are "pretty sure" feel free to give the exact numbers, the point is the RPMs will be nowhere near 16,000 by downshifting one gear, and the point about the reduced redline of the f22 is that it is due to the longer stroke/increased displacement... It wasn't just something they did for no reason for US cars like 2003AP1 seemed to believe.

I think the 16,000 rpm comment was a joke

I thought the reason they did it is because they felt U.S. drivers cant drive manual, and misshifted too many AP1s lol
