Default Minimum pad a rotor specs

Hi,

I did a track day about 3 weeks ago and the brakes are starting to squeak. (I changed the pads before I went so I'm hoping there not worn out!).

What's the minimum width for both pads and discs (rotors)?

Also, If it

Check to see if the brake pads are not loose in their mounts. I don't know if your brake calipers are new or old, but usually when they get old the brake caliper positioning surface tends to wear, and the brake pads stay loose in some way. For the shims just get some anti-squeak material. Don't use ordinary grease, because at higher temperature while braking will burn them off quicker, this is all I can think of, hope it helps....

Did you chang the pads to new stock pads or a race compound?

There's a minimum thickness for the rotor cast right into it; I don't remember the number off the top of my head though. As far as pads go, the stock pads are installed with a shim that has a "sensor" (actually just a metal prong) on it that will drag on the rotor and make a squealing noise when the pad thickness gets down to about 2 mm.

For track use, I never get on the track with less than 4mm of pad depth but then again we remove the squeal sensors as they can cause severe rotor wear if they do get down to that 2mm level during an event.

Cheers for the info.

I changed the OEM's for Hawk HP Plus's.

Pretty good pad.

I was wondering what that prong thing was for....... (light dawns!)

I don't think the Hawk's came with one on!

I took a look at the disc and it has 10mm cast on it.

It rained over the weekend and the squeaking has subsided. I think I just need to take them off and give the shims a damn good clean.

Is there any specific name product that is good to use on the shims. On different threads I have seen people talk about anti-seize and/or anti-squeak grease. Which is better and is there a specific product that is recommended. (I've been in AutoZone and they only have 1 product that seems to come close..)

FYI. Now I know how easy it is to change the pads, the next track event I do, I'll probably get a proper track set of pads and change them there!!

1 last question... if the disc's (rotors!) do need changing, is there anything better for road/track use to replace them with or are the OEM's good enough?

Cheers
Wardy
