Default Misfire on 1 2 3 and 4, Low Oil

Hello,

I have a 2001 Honda s2000.. (Love it very much I think it's the best car in the world... )
Anyways..

I have been having some problems with misfires on 1, 2, 3, 4..
The Shop has replaced the spark plugs and then gave my back the car and said it was fixed.. I drove it about 100 miles to work and then when I was leaving and started the car again the light came on again..

(took my s back to the shop)
After a week of them trying to find the problem the replaced the fuel filter.. They drove it for about 30 miles and the light did not come back on..
The next day when I was leaving work. The light came on again...

They told me to bring it back monday and that it should be safe to drive.. So I drove to my friends house and there I noticed that the oil light came on for a second.. I checked the oils and I was about 1.5qt low...

Is it possible that the oil could have cause the misfires?

I use Mobile 1 5w30 in.. It seems to burn a qt ever 2.5k miles is that normal?

If it's not the oil what else could it be?

btw they charged me over 400 dollars so far for my car is that to much for spark plugs and fuel filter..

Misfires in our car are usually caused by: 1) plugs (make sure you use OEM plugs unless you are turbo/SC); 2) coil packs; 3) injectors.

Rarely, you will get a misfire with a bent valve. Usually it is very hard to bend a valve just barely enough for the car to still run...but it's happened though. Best way to tell is with a compression or leak down test.

BTW...if your shop replaced your fuel filter, did they give you the old one? Our car doesn't really have a fuel filter...it has a mesh sock that goes around the fuel pick-up...it's pretty much impossible to clog the way old style fuel filters do. So it makes me pretty suspicious of your shop. You might post in your local s2ki forum and ask for a recommendation for a reputable shop in your area.

And yes...1.5qts in 2.5-3k miles is reasonable for an early ap1. It's kind of on the high side of normal though. Our car squirts oil on the cyl walls to keep them cool at 9000rpm...so naturally, they use oil more than most cars.

Could be the MAP sensor or the connector to the MAP sensor.

Dude negcamber knwos his s*** period, one of the most helpful s2000 owners on this forum, hands down. But i wanted to chime in about the burning of oil...

Are you hitting pass 6000 RPM's and holding it there for along time? Because even with my 2003 AP1 @36,1xx miles, it burns oil (and i can smell it) if i rev above 6000RPM and keep it high for like 15-20 seconds (in which i rarely do now because of the engine oil burning).

Bending valves and the car still being able to run isn't too rare of a sight. It just recently happened to me with my S2000. I had a random misfire code and a very rough idle, but felt fine at cruising rpms. (the bent valves were caused by a over-rev)

okay so here is my problem. I didnt over rev cause i was shifting up. But i missed a gear, and went to nuetral and stomped on it. Little fun with my friend in the car.

Anyways, i replaced the plugs with NGK iridium OEM, after this i drove from Va Beach to Williamsburg and back about 200miles total with stopping off at a meet in Hampton and driving around in general, then it started to back fire again and them misfire. So I replaced the coilpacks with OEM ones. And now i am about to take it to the stealership. I can only hope that it is only the valves. I also find it hard to believe that i could make that trip on a bent rod or blown bearing! So you think it is the valves for me also?

could the fuel pump cause misfires?

Check your fuel pressure to be sure it's not a bad fuel pump.

Does the vehicle idle rough?

If not, try checking your valve lash.

Bad gas is another leading cause for misfire.

Only a compression test or cylinder leak down test will tell.

whatever the issue may be.. dont throw parts at it till you figure out what the problem is

i would start with a compresson test.. its easy and alot of missfire codes i have seen for any Honda have been due to bent valves.. or valves that are out of adjustment but this usally gets you a rich or lean condition and not misfire
