Thumbs up misfire codes and possible low compression?

hi s2ki! how are you?
i hope you guys are enjoying your holidays

anyway my s2k (recently picked up, unaware if ragged on or not) is throwing all the misfire codes: general misfire detected, misfire in cylinder 1, 2, 3, AND 4. So after trying to do some research, i had a compression test done, i have 200,150,200,200.

My question is, are all these numbers low?

And also, I was thinking it may be the retainers (based on some reading i have done), but I can't figure out why a retainer issue in one cylinder would cause a misfire in all cylinders .

Please help me out, I appreciate it, and thanks in advance s2ki

happy holidays.

FWIW, when I adjusted my valves and turned the engine over with the key with the plugs all disconnected, I got all those misfire codes. They all cleared and didn't return. Could be the P.O. did some "work" on the car and tripped the codes.

Have you had them cleared and they came back?
Did you buy the car with the check engine light on?
Does the car run OK?

The one low compression reading doesn't look good, but if the car runs...

I was in the same exact position as you about 3 months ago I had missfires and 1 cylinder with low compression it turned out to be my cylinder head(loose valve guides) but I would recommend doing a leak down test to see if its the cylinder head or bottom end, but as stated above #2 cylinder isnt looking so good.
Goodluck!

thank you guys so much for your info!!! i appreicate it! and happy holidays btw

i am getting a leakdown done soon, i will you posted. i did buy the car w the light on, it drives beautifully, it does idle a bit rough. and the light does appear sporadically - i cleared it, drove it, even beat on it alittle with no light reappearing. if anyone else has insight or anything to offer, please help me out - thank you!

with some basic research i'm thinking it may be the retainers because i hear they suck balls, can the retainers be changed with the head on (i was considering the valve falling into the cylinder)?

you guys are the best
merry xmas

^ Wow "i cleared it, drove it, EVEN BEAT ON IT ALITTLE with no light reappearing". Might be retainers?? LOL. keep beating on it until the valve drops into the cylinder.

Merry x-mas to you. Quit driving the poor car and check the retainers. Not that difficult.
