Default misfire with no cel

hi all, i recently got 2 of my valve guides replaced on cylinder 4. when i got the car back i noticed ther was stil a bit of a miss when i was taking off so my mechanic that done the valve guides told me it was probably the plug on cylinder 4 that needed replacing so i replaced it and it went fine for the day but eventually the miss came back worse and worse, and now it has become a dead miss you can hear it when the car is ticking over! now the power seems fine but im just wondering did the mechanic make some sort of a mistake when he was doing the valve guides or is there something else gone wrong?? the car is a 99 with 90k miles on the clock. thanks for any inputs

Just curious, what made you want to replace just two valve guides?
