"Toluene-laden fuels burn slower and make less power on high-revving engines. So much in fact that much of the air/fuel mixture is still burning as the charge exits through the exhaust valve. This is a sure way to destroy your emissions-control equipment and not pass smog. For these reasons, true race fuels don't just use toluene or other active ingredients to boost the octane. Instead they use better-refined hydrocarbon chains that raise octane while retaining optimal combustion characteristics." http://www.europeancarweb.com/tech/0503ec_...sted/index.html

If you are putting it in a M1 Abrams main battle tank, then have at it.

For the high compression S2k...... uh no.

It always amazes me that people are willing to just randomly put crap in the car and hope for the best. It used to be the old av gas stuff, 110 LL has a ton of lead and will kill the cat, then JP4 (mmm jet fuel must be faster). Then nitromethane...

Gasoline chemistry is pretty complex. That is why things like MMT are used that don't change the dozen other things the gas has to do at a wide range of temperaures. The great old days of unregulated fuel turbo F1 cars is long over. But even today there are proprietery blends used for racing. Real chem Es made this stuff up.

I raised the cancer issue because you are now handling and storing a volatile carcinogen. Gasoline is a significant fire and health risk that we take for granted. Taking one of the leading sources of that threat and playing with it is inherently dangerous. And, all of that for .2 Ron gain?

I dont have problem like these in Korea. Regular gas is 93 Octane and premium is 98 octane at every pump

But do they use the same octane rating system there that the US does here?

Isn't Toluene used in some types of explosives? I thought I remember seeing that name when I was looking into various chemicals used in making explosives...

Edit: Yep should have read the wikipedia link first, used in making TNT.
