Default More power for about .15 cents?

So, I read on EBay about some joker selling a mod for the S2K for performance, blah-blah...

He goes on to say how most people just sell a resistor and how its a joke, and "here's how"...

You short the MAP sensor with a 4.7k ohm resistor from radio shack which indicates to the ECU a constant 57f degrees...

Now, I have NO idea if thats correct, etc... BUT, down in the south, I do notice my car runs worse when its hot out.... As long as the temp is above 70f or so, would this be an okay mod to make?

And, would it produce more power?

I honestly have NO idea how that stuff works, so don't flame me, please..and for heavens sake, don't go try it just on my word!

Anyone?

This would likely make your car run like crap, and yield no significant power gain (and more likely a power loss). Even if the engine thinks the air is -100 degrees F, the air is still whatever temp it is, and thus you won't get anything powerwise that way. Can't fool thermodynamic laws with a 15 cent resistor

If it's really that hot where you live and it really bothers you and the car. Get an AEM or Injen CAI and insulate it. I've shown this works really well. I used these brands as examples because they are the easiest to insulate.

The map sensor is reading the pressure, not the temperature which is provided by the IAT. This appears to be ill advised.

Wouldn't having the ECU think its colder richen the fuel mixture?

The colder the air, the denser it is, so you'd get more air. This would cause the ECU to give more fuel. Then if it warms up, the ECU will give it less fuel, to counteract the less dense air. So, if you make the ECU think it's colder, you get less air plus more fuel. And last I checked, our engine needs to be leaned out, not richened.

I could be completely wrong, but thats how I understand it. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

the VAFC is built specifically to modify the MAP sensor data.

Assuming this resistor was for the IAT sensor (NOT THE MAP) this would trick the ECU into using the aggressive end of the spark map. High compression + too much spark advance may equal detonation. This mod is a very Bad Idea even if you are running 100+ octane.

It's more like:

ebay modification: .15
100 degree sunny weather: free
new engine: $7891 installed
watching your engine blow out for a .15 mod: priceless
