Default mugen hardtop nutserts coming loose

so i have a forbidden mugen hardtop and i noticed some squeaking from the passenger front mounting point so i took it apart and one of the nutserts are starting to pull out. i pretty sure it started to happen little by little by coming in and come out of my driveway. i know it will come out eventually and i want to know if anyone has experienced this and what they have done. and if anyone has a tutorial on how to put the nutserts back in the FRP using fibergass or epoxy . thanks and all help is appreciated

I do not have a hard top, but have experience with nutserts. I would need to see pictures to let you know if the methods I used before would work, based on clearance, would you be able to remove scrap shaving, or is it sealed. What type of nutsert was used and how it was attached are all things I am not sure of.

First the concept on the ones I have installed or had experience with were aluminum flanges with steel thread inserts. They could be installed in a hole being able to see the back or not. If they were stripped, we normally drilled them out if the shavings could be recovered, or if they would not make noise/rattle behind the panel if they could not be recovered. You would install a new one in the hole. The new one had a lip that could be gripped with a wrench on the outside flange and you would tighten a bolt that would crush the aluminum until it tightened against the substrate. You would remove the bolt and install the bolt that you needed to hold the new piece on.

Not sure I would suggest doing this in your case, I always did these on metal and not fiberglass. Sometimes if you can keep the flange stationary, you can tighten the bolt and it will crush the nutsert more. But like I said, not sure what type is in the top.

good luck

IMHO, take out the nutsert ( riveted nut ) replace with new hardware. make sure to drill the hole to appropriate size. i had to do the same job on my OEM hardtop.

I was hoping forbidden could chime in just to see what they've done when they see this problem
Or if anyone else has a diy to follow. Doesn't have to be on a hardtop but pertaining to replacing nutserts in fiberglass

I personally would try to contact Forbidden about it directly to see if they had a recommendation as to what you can try. I have experience with "nutserts" or "rivnuts" but not on fiberglass. All the ones I've done have used a special tool for crimping the hardware in place.

Contact forbidden Alberto is a great guy I. He will more than likely just send you the new rivnuts and you'll have to install the, unless you're local to him then I'll be the will install them for you.
