Let's just say that after I spent a lot of time building demand, and received commitments from King, they completely reversed what I had been told, leaving me with an unacceptable marketing model, and some pizzed off clients. This is in contrast to the many other suppliers I work with.

Yes, and they have a focus on racing, not selling - that is part of the problem. I am hearing rumors that Mugen is looking......

Having a single distributor of a product is bad mojo for the customer in almost any situation. If we can get two authorized distributors that simply means more product availability for all of us.

Actually no. In marketing you use the number of distributors you need to support the size of market penetration. Market penetration of high end true racing modifications for Honda S2000's is low.

There is no need for multiple distributors. Now if it's a question about vendors, that's already covered. There are multiple vendors.

Usually in supply chain, distrbutors are organized regionally, and that is to support the vendors that retail whatever product is in the market.

KMS is an example that shows to be not only a distributor, but also a retailer. I've seen more and more tuner shops start carrying and ordering from King, so I wouldn't be surprised if KMS pulls out of retailling Mugen products, but I doubt that will happen seeing that they also retail many other manufacturer's products.

In certain cases, I would say having multiple distributors for a single line of products is bad mojo for customers. Case in point is StonGard. They have set up multiple regional distributors with no visible non-compete clauses. At one point StoGard was everywhere....they had great national coverage. However after one regional distributor started offering competitive kits to their regional retailers, the other distributors had to follow suit just to compete. Then someone started offering custom cut kits. The rest may do the same. What's happened to the StonGard brand? It's been watered down to a point that the customer can't tell the difference between StonGard, Xpel, etc. How's this a detriment to the customer, they get lower cost and lower quality kits, without knowledge of what's really out there.

For the size of the market, I think Mugen selected the right distributor, and King has done what it needs to. They are in the business of selling services and parts to racers, not so much S2000 street modders.

If they were in the business of selling street modder equipment, you all would still have something to complain about. There'd be complaints of lack of services for S2000 customer....knowing full well the market for Integra, Civics, and RSX is much larger and would be catered to more extensively than to the S2000 and the NSX crowds.
