Default Mushy brakes...

After going for a drive in some twisties today, I noticed that my brake pedal had a bit more travel than usual. I thought this was normal until it stayed the same even after the brakes cooled. The pedal requires more travel before it starts engaging and can be pushed all of the way to the floor with some considerable effort. My brakes were bled and replaced with OEM Honda brake fluid and I had about 7mm of pad left front and rear about 4 months ago. Any ideas? As far as I could tell the isn't a fluid leak.

It is a possibility because I just checked from fluid a few hours later and it was still very hot. Pedal pressure is still inconsistent; sometimes it feels normal and sometimes it goes to the floor. If indeed the fluid boiled, will pedal pressure eventually return to normal? I am doing a track day in a few weeks so should swap out some fluid with a higher wet and dry boiling point?

Maybe you got air in the brake lines? Try re-bleeding it.

Once it boils, it's done. Your brakes won't get better. ATE superblue and motul are popular.

complete brake system flush is needed, so you might want to upgrade the fluid to the motul or the ate while your at it.

I took it to the Honda dealer because I am under certified warranty, and when I was there it was doing the same thing except it felt normal after pumping it a couple times, and then went back t feeling mushy. They reckoned it could be that fluid is bypassing the seals in the master cylinder...However, on the way home no matter how much I pumped, I couldn't get it to feel normal again.

After taking it for another drive, it is being inconsistent. It will feel normal and then go back to being very mushy. I am beginning to think that the culprit is indeed bad seals in the master cylinder. Does this sound right? Usually if I recall correctly the seals get worn out by debris in the brake fluid, and the same dealer was the only people that ever touched the braking system.

Probably it's a bad master cylinder, yes.
