I already have shims from my last rebuild. I didn't buy all of them, but I bought like every 3rd size or something like that. I figured that should be enough to get me within spec.

Doc, my car is lowered around 2-2.5". That may effect the cv's, but it shouldn't have any effect on the diff. As for cryo, I don't think I have time to take care of that stuff. I have the ring/pinion with me here in LA, but everything else will be arriving in Riverside tomorrow and I'm planning to assemble it all tomorrow night. How long would it take to cryo the ring/pinion? How much would it cost? Unfortunately, my biggest concern right now has to be money. I'm trying to do everything right so I don't have to do it again, but I can't really afford any excess expenditure...

Reverend, Please take some pics of the 04 housing- I'd like to see what they changed. Here's some pics of the Comptech housing and a stock 02 housing for reference.

Will do.

Hey, does anyone in SoCal have access to a push/pull gauge I can borrow tomorrow??? I tried to get one through ebay, but by the time the sellers got back to me, it was too late to ship it overnight and get it to me by tomorrow. I'd really rather not do the fish scale thing again. I called around and can't track one down. Help!

Hey Rev

I got the press thing handled thanks to the shop owner... and my buddy Simp.

Everything went smooth as butter (almost). All I have left to do is push the hub assy into the round tight hole.

Then put everything back on the car and get alignment done.

That reminds me. I have the whole shim kit somewhere.

Anyone? I really need a push/pull gauge today! I can leave a deposit!

Dave - I called you last night, but you didn't pick up. It's a good thing you got it taken care of already, sean didn't have the tool you needed. He had one that was a little too big (won't work) and a bunch that were way too small.

I might want to borrow your shim set just in case I don't have exactly the right one in my current collection. Do you mind?

What's wrong with the fish scale? I used a 25 lbs scale with a peak hold that worked great, and it was cheap. I think I bought it at Academy.

Update:

All the parts came in today except that 1 of the 4 studs for the back of the housing is on backorder - great. No ETA listed.

I started doing assembly tonight, but I just broke my friend's hydrolic press trying to get the bearing onto the damn pinion. Dunno what the hell is wrong. It goes on about 3/4 of the way without issue and then doesn't want to budge. Any ideas? Suggestions???
