Unhappy Is my charging normal?

Hello guys!
I really need some help please.
My car is MY2002 without any electric modifications (except Cliford alarm).
The previous week I replaced my battery which I had for only one year, because it spilt its fluids in my battery base.
My engineer told me that the battery was faulty. He also checked my alternator and it was ok. However, after my own check using a multimeter, I found that when the car enters at vtec area, the charge of the battery is higher than 14.4. Is this normal? If my alternator, right before redline (8800 rpm) gets 14.8-15.0, maybe that's why the previous battery overcharged and spilt its fluid. I would appreciate any information.

Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of anyone checking charging system volts @ redline.

The PCM controls charging system output, and reduces alternator charging @ high engine RPM. 14.8-15V isn't high enough to cause a battery to puke out electrolyte.

Typically when overcharging gets is in the 17-19V range is when you've got problems.

I would be highly surprised if this was a problem. Your car is 6-7 years old, if it was the original battery that is probably the problem.

I had an old car once that 'overloaded' the battery, but I don't recall the voltage. With idle engine speed the voltage was OK, but during driving it went up. Similar to your situation. The one thing I did remember was that it stunk very much like onions (when the battery was boiling).

How did you measure the voltage? (Through the cigarette plug or under the hood at the terminals?)

Does your car ever stink like onions seriously!

14.5V is normal. I wouldn't worry about .4V swing in either direction.

it could be a regulator problem. doesnt the alternator use this to regulate voltage depending on the rpm the alt. sees?
