Is my diff about to give up the ghost?
And how are you liking the 4.3s gearing?
I've known that i've been on borrowed time. I'm still on original motor, trans, diff, clutch.
I'm going to go local to get it done quick. My car is staying NA stockish powered with OEM tune - CA smog crap, it's just easier. I wanna get back on track and driving ASAP.
I also don't feel like having to ship my differential across the country, etc. etc. Hoping to get everything done for under $2300 - parts and labor to rebuild. I'll pull and re-install the diff myself.
Only mod to the OSG superlock will be the solid pinion sleave replacement.
Given that I got 14yrs and 100ish track days out of the OEM unit, I don't anticipate having longevity issues. I'm sticking with 200TW tires and pretty much keeping power levels as is. Car has had full aero for the last 8yrs.
The diff was actually the last mod that I wanted to do, and now it looks like the want has been accelerated into a need.
Now it's just drive, maintain, drive, and tidy/clean up stuff.
"For grip driving it is common to deactivate some clutches to allow for some differential action on the exit of a corner. This helps a grip car get every bit of forward traction possible."
Team Kelly Racing also recommended it, though I chose to deactivate less than they had suggested
I'm still on the fence with the 4.3s. I think for Buttonwillow 4.1s or 4.44s (this is on an AP2) may be faster but I've only had one day in the dry on them so far and that day had a lot of traffic (also I was/am super rusty)
This is why I like the idea of getting the OSG through Lugod and letting him do his thing with it first.
I honestly think the advanced aging on my diff was from years of autox hard launches. It had around 160,000 miles and 3 owners that autocrossed the car regularly. I think longevity is less of a concern for track use only. But, I think upgrading to an OSG/clutch type diff is very worth it. I have not heard anyone do it and say it did anything but improve lap times. I have heard 1/2 to1 second (on a roughly 2 min lap) from some already fast people up to a couple of seconds for less fast people. The latter likely because it makes them more comfortable with applying power out of corners. For less timid, more experienced drivers I suspect on the lower end, but still a valid improvement. I have only not done it as I have continued to have other much higher priorities when I was doing car projects. I think that with shorter gearing would be amazing in our car.
Also, I believe swapping an AP2 trans into an AP1 and keeping the original diff puts you effectively at a 4.33 on its own for what it is worth. Check me on that but that is what I recall from looking at options in the past. I know some that did that and they said it made a small improvement but they still wished they would have gone shorter.

What's best way to get into contact with Lugod directly - email OSG USA??? And what do his lead times look like? I'm assuming that this is just to get a "tuned" LSD and the rest of the installation into the pumpkin still needs to happen?
If not and you have issues finding it, feel free to DM me your FB user name here and I can invite you. Lots of good info there. Charper, Lugod, Smedegard, etc.
You can order a tune from them, I'd of course email or call first to discuss your needs

Yes, the rest of the install will still need to be done. This is just setting up the LSD
Shaftworks USA also has a tuning service

I just know Lugod as oinojo here on the forums. My searching for him found him on LinkedIn of all places.
This is super helpful. Thanks!
