IMO,
CEL should not be neglected. unless you are running a test pipe....

 

or turbo/supercharge.

I guess I'm a bit confused as to how your engine RPM's could have slammed into the rev limiter while you were just driving along. Here's why: If you were in fact engaged in 4th gear there's no way your engine could have raced to redline. Well, unless something in your tranny let go allowing the engine to free rev. Even then, the rev-limiter would have saved the engine.

the situation stands as is: about the #4 cylinder - I had a mis-fire on one of cylinders about 3-months ago- took it to the dealer -they reset the computer and told me not to worry about it - I was surprised they never opened the engine.

Once the car blew and I pulled it over the side of the road I called a couple of my friends and tow truck - one guy who came has a tuning shop and owns a red S2000 - he opened my oil cap and tried hitting the engine start - his comment was I think you broke one of the timer/timing chains or a valve inside the engine.....I really don't know what that is but - he also told me that the rev limiter is suppose to prevent over-reving on accelaration but once something like a chain or cable snaps your engine is out of luck, nothing can prevent that...........

the guy at the dealer is not the problem (he's actually mad cool) and has helped me in the past - but he said it's all up to Honda Customer Care Now - it's out of his hands!!!!

My Engine is completely Stock - only thing I have is a K&N Drop in Filter......

I check the oil immediately - every seemed ok.

It just sucks that Honda is trying to shove the guilt factor on me - while most of the evidence points to a engine mal-function or bust.......

I've read a few other post - about blown engines from mis-shifts - but in case that was 100% impossible since I was even shifting!

 

Check you #4 cylinder... there is a forum about #4 cylinder scoring, do a search ... Get the dealer to check cylinder #4, if this is the case....they should replace the engine.....

 

4k rpm in 4th is about 50 mph, if I remember correctly. If the ECU caused the engine to rev wildly with the car in 4th gear and the clutch engaged, the car would have accelerated to about 115 mph before the engine reached redline. There should have been plenty of time to do something before the engine exceeded redline.

 

Yeah the RPMs redlining... Sounds very fishy.

That doesn't happen by itself, and if it were throttle induced it would not get past 9200ish rpms..

I suspect you were in 2nd and thought you were in fourth.

Really sounds like a mis-shift to me.

Well all I am saying is your story sounds seriously fishy to me. I wasn't there and make no claim to know what happened.

But, if I were in charge I would have denied your claim too.
