Default MY Tranny swaps?

a good friend of mine (a moderator for team integra, woot for the name drop ) asked me tonight about the F20 trannys. He says he read somewhere that 1-4 are shorter, and 5-6 are the longer gears. he then went on to ask me if i had heard anyone talking about it, or if it was possible. I said i didnt see why not, but i havnt really heard of anyone trying...Has anyone tried this? Is it worth it?

Billman250 has swapped an '04 tranny into his '03. He loves it.

Your friend is correct, they did change the gearing (1-4 shorter and 5-6 longer). They also changed the syncros from brass to a composite. The swap is straight forward and requires only 1 change. The output flange needs to be swapped.

Mine is sitting at the shop waiting for me to schedule the installation.

Input flange?

Will that come with the new tranny?

I was about to order one of those from the train wrecked 04s and I need to make sure I get all the right pieces

What you will need to do is remove the flange from the old transmission and install it on the new one. Honda changed the flanges on both ends of the drive shaft. So the output flange on the transsmission and input flange on the differential are differant.

It is really no big deal. Just order the transmission.

(I saw your FS thread )

So, what kind of money are we talking about here for an '04 tranny?

Pretty soon, I'll have an 04 car without ever buying one.
Oh, you're buying an '04 alright! You're just doing it piece at a time.

Doesn't seem quite worth the trouble to me but, what ever pops your bubble!

I'm afraid you're right. You know the saying: "The sum of the parts costs more than the whole thing when bought as a whole." (Well, OK, so I took a little poetic licence with this one. )

This is not bad considering how much Viper trannies cost. I don't think I'll be grabbing one of those but it's certainly something to consider if I decide to keep the car for another few years.
