Just wondering if anyone has put a my04 gearbox in a my00-03.How is it compared to the original gearbox?Anyone?I am replacing my gearbox and im considering a newer gearbox, but i've read some horror stories on this post on the my 04 units.Popping out of first?????Still grinding second?????

in my opinion its not a feasible move, as the 04 tranny has different gear ratios to match the torque and power curves of the 2.2l engine (F22c). From my perspective i do not think that the 04' tranny will match up well, or as well as the original 00-03 tranny on pre-04 model year s2000's.

I wonder if the USA 04 tranny is the same as the JDM or Euro tranny. Because they still use the F20 in japan and euro for 2004/5 but they have new lower gearing.

It has been done and the owner (Hcash) reports he likes it and the resulting ratios.

I just did it last saturday. The tranny matches up to the engine with no problems. The reported ratios as compared to the ratios of a pre 04 tranny are 4% lower for 1-4th or 5th gear. All because of a change in the secondary reduction gear. Everything else I forgot right now what the percentage differences are for 5th and 6th gear. And that is with 4.57 gears on top of it. I think its a nice compliment to my gears.

The only thing to do is to change the 04 companion flange for your old 03 or older flange.

All mounts perfectly, as Venom and I did his together. I've done the math, here's the deal....the 04 has lower (numerically higher) gears in 1-5 (just a little bit, like having the equvalant of say 4.30 gears in the rear). SIXTH gear is a little taller than 00-03, meaning you'll drop a hundred or two RPMs at any given speed. Rear flange swaps out in a minute or two. I already have one on the way for my car.

His unit had FIFTEEN miles on it when he put it in, so I'd hope he'd have no issues. There's a few more on EBAY ( this is where Venom got his, I know and back the seller 100%) For 1500, these came out of 04 S2000's that were wrecked in shipping before they ever came off the truck!
