Default MY06-07 AEM V2 CAI Install Notes

Hi all,

I recently installed an AEM V2 CAI in my MY07. It doesn't seem like many people have done this on an '06/'07 as i was unable to find any information on install for these models. I ran into a couple problems during the install, and figured i'd post up some notes in case anyone with '06/'07 decides to do this sometime.

But first, the good stuff. I put together a quick vid to compare the difference in the sound of my S with and without the V2:

AEM V2 vs. Stock Intake Comparison Video

I <3 the sound!!!

---------------------------------------------

INSTALL NOTES

To start off, I decided to approach the install by removing my front bumper. This is the easiest way to install the CAI without having to jack the car up imo. I don't have a good jack, so this way proved to be easiest.

Removing the stock airbox was no problem. However, I ran into a couple problems as soon as I installed the top part of the CAI. The first thing is that the stock vacuum tubing is made of brass and does not line up with the hole in the CAI:

To resolve this, I went to an auto store and bought some 1/2 diameter (i think) rubber hosing to replace the brass tubing:

As you can see, I only bypassed the brass bracket instead of removing it. The reason is that there is another tube welded onto the bracket that is meant for the engine coolant. I did not want to deal with having to drain the coolant out to replace the tubing, so i just left the bracket in there. i might remove it at a later date.

The next thing is that the temperature sensor was too small to fit in the big hole on the CAI. For this, I went to the same store and picked up some 3/8 inch vacuum hosing. I inserted the sensor into the hosing, then inserted the whole thing into the CAI hole. The tubing was wide enough to squeeze into the hole and hold itself in there without sliding out.

Now as everyone knows, the fender wall needed to be cut to route the 2nd part of the CAI. Here are some pics of the pieces I cut out along with the final hole with the filter coming out:

Finally, I cut out the left vent in the front bumper to allow for better airflow:

Nice! Thanks for the pics. Are the temp sensor and vacuum tubing/brass tubing the only reasons why the AEM V2 is said not to be compatible with the 06/07s?

I have an 07 and I would like some sort of CAI.

Thanks a lot for this, especially for the problems you encountered and solutions you came up with. This will be great for MY06/07 owners. Another alternative to the K&N.

So any impressions? Are you concerned about hydrolock?

The AEM V2 should have come with the hoses you went and got. I've installed 3 and they all came with them. Nice write up though!

yeah that's probably the only reason...cuz the engine is pretty much the same as MY04/05...and it's compatible with those years.

I love it haha. the sound is great...can't say i notice a HP difference, but that's ok...mainly did it for the sound ;-) I thought I was gonna have a rattling problem cuz the CAI is really close to the bumper support and radiator fan...but it doesn't rattle at all.

As for hydrolock, i'm not concerned about that. I had a slammed integra (lower than my S) with a CAI and i drove that thing in pouring rain...no hydrolock. It pretty much has to be submerged to hydrolock.

Don't forget the pretty substantial weight savings over the stock box.

Nice writeup
