Default Need advice on dealer inspection of CEL

Hey guys,

I've had a persistent check engine light issue (misfire codes) for some time. I tried all the potential items before taking it to the dealer (spark plugs, ignition coils, valve adjustment)

The dealer came back with:

Vehicle came with multiple codes stored P0300, P0301, P0302, P0304
verified engine has a rough idle
performed engine performance scope
#3 cylinder secondary voltage is higher than normal
Performed compression test
#1 @240 #2 @ 235 #3 @140 #4 @ 235
Also performed cylinder leakdown and #3 cylinder has 80% leak down which indicates possible cylinder head damage, burnt valve or bent valve.

They want $1790 to remove the cylinder head and inspect. Should I have it fixed at the dealer or shop around at other mechanics? And is this the type of situation where I should fix the car and sell it (02' 80k) or will my car still be in great shape after this type of repair?

Sorry about the long post and thanks in advance for any advice. I'm not very mechanically inclined. I'm kinda bummed, but hey maybe it's time for an '08.

with numbers like that a new motor or rebuild is RIGHT around the corner... start preparing. cyl 3 is in bad shape compared to the rest of the motor

I'd start with just a head rebuild before jumping into a complete motor.

Post up in your local s2ki forum and ask for a recommendation for a decent shop who can pull the head and send it to a decent machine shop for rebuild.

The dealer would rape you for that work.

If only the one cyl is down and it is a bent valve, it should repair just fine and be good as new after.
