Need help with a mechanical problem
Today, I was driving back from work in my CRX and I was taking the service road onramp when I shifted to third and when I pressed on the gas pedal it hesitated, I downshifted, seemed fine for a second and then it did the same. The engine remained running but would not accelerate until I clutched out and then it stalled and wouldn't start again. The engine turns but it makes a sound like, the best I can describe it is a mechanical fart, the same way a wet fart would sound in a toilet. This noise is coming from the engine. I know it sounds funny but I am not joking.
I pushed the car about a 500 feet or so, thank god it's a 1800 pound CRX...
I got it it to the lot and it continued to make the wet toilet fart sound and won't start.
Had it towed home, took a look everything seems ok, sparg plugs look ok for a 13 year old car. The cylinder 2 plug had some oil on it but It also had oil on it when I replaced the plugs about 6 months ago...
This goes beyond my mechanical knowledge and sound diagnosis, anyone have an idea?
I was having a problem with the check engine light coming on once a month or so with some slight hesitation and the ECU would flash code 1 which is oxygen sensor, I would just reset the ecu and it would go away for a month...
If it's going to be costly, it is swap time, although timing is very bad
Thanks for any help.
Oh, the engine is a d15 in a 1989 DX.

Also consider the following:
Do you still have the original cat? Could be plugged.
Have you changed your fuel filter lately? Could be plugged.
Have you checked your fuel pressure lately? Could be bad fuel pump. Or FP reg.
Have you had your injectors (it has injectors, right?) cleaned?

Water or condensation in the fuel? My Saab had a similar problem in the winter, a tank later it was fine. There are gas treatments to 'dry' gasoline, you may want to try that. Also in the winter it is a good idea to have the fuel tank over half full to reduce condensation.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have checked some of the thing suggested. It's beyond my ability now and I had it towed to my mechanic. We suspect a bad timing belt, skipped tooth... He will check it tommorow, if damage is over $100 US, I will swap.
Thanks All.
