Default Need help with my engine rebuild.

I recently bought a 2000 s2000 with major oil starvation to the cams and realized the allen bolt that holds thr cam sprocket was snapped.. I also think the chain was stretched because at TDC it wasnt centered. I pulled the head off today and dropped the oil pan and the block looks good for 180k. No scoring on the walls that I can feel with my nails and only metal shavings in the pan were from the cam gears being grinded. The motor still turned over but wouldnt start. I need help on whats the best thing to do. The head is trashed and found a used one locally that I was going to give to a machine shop and do a oem rebuild with ap2 retainers on the intake and all new seals. As for the block I was going to upgrade to ap2 banjo bolts. Main problem is I need to do a timing chain due to the chain being stretched. Do I need to buy a new tensioner and guides? Or anything else I should change before i put the head back on? Any advice would be very helpful.

Here are some pics with the head off. A lot of dirt got in the coolant passage ways and also on top of the pistons hoe o drain the coolant and clean it all up?

On any engine I’ve seen with camwheel problems/oil starved camshafts, the bottom end bearings were all destroyed. The cascading damage will show through the entire engine. I even repaired one with a new head, only to have the bottom end fail 2 weeks later. There is a good chance the entire engine is done.

While you have the pan off, check the four connecting rod bearings.

@Billman250 you helped me out a lot searching on this forum! So you want me to disconnect the rods and check the bearings? If the bearings are bad I would have to pull the motor and rebuild it with new bearings, rings, etc? Or can you change the bearings while the block is still in the car?

Rod bearings yes, but I would get the crank polished.

If I have to rebuild the block should I go with ACL bearings and OEM piston rings?

use the DBW 2006+ part number piston rings if you are going to rebuild.

prepare for everyone here to tell you not to rebuild and buy a used motor

I am rebuilding an engine with all oem components. I am unsure if this is foolish or a worthwhile endeavour!

I can't find a used good motor no less than $3500. I rather rebuild with all oem parts and start fresh. I know a good friend of mine that owns a machine shop and has worked on f20c motors.

Checked my rod bearings and they all looked like this. Guessing this is okay? @Billman250 Also when I cleaned the oil pan was lots of grey sludge on the bottom but my guess is from the head and cams. The block looks fine and may put it back together with a new timing chain and tensioner and new head. What do you guys think?
