When I took the plastic covers apart in my old car, there was a wire that ran around the juncture of the two halves. I assume that the covers were heat-sealed by applying current to the wire. Now that they're apart, I'd remove the wire and use an adhesive to hold them closed. You'll need to take care that it doesn't attack or discolor the plastic, so try putting a small amount in an inconspicuous place as a test. FWIW, I used Duro brand gel cyanoacrylate glue ("Super Glue") and didn't experience problems with discoloration, but I was very careful to keep the glue from seeping outside the joint. I would think that any general purpose epoxy would work well too. The main challenge is to apply the adhesive in a controlled manner so that you have a neat external appearance.

There is no glue that will hold these together long term. I know from experience, having tried it when mine were removed for the Elda roll bar install. I had to replace both hoops.

I tried every glue known to man, including one type billed by 3M as specifically designed for this type of plastic. If there is any stress on the hoop halves, they will eventually come apart or at least crack open.

I think Mugen makes a plastic piece that leaves the roll hoops exposed but finishes off the opening. This mod is popular in some places I've been told. I think you'd want to chrome or powder coat the hoops if you do this, so you won't be saving any money over replacing the plastic hoop pieces, especially since Mugen is likely to extract a heavy toll for their pieces.

I guess asking why you took them apart would be a bad question to ask? You don't need to but I guess you know that now.
