Default Need someone with experience removing softtop

I received my hardtop on Tues and was installing it today when the most dreadful thing happened... I was tightening up the bolts on the rear anchors of the hardtop when the socket came off the wrench and fell between the the softtop and the body. I do not want to just leave it rattling around in there but I can't even see it. What should I do? I was planning on removing the softtop this weekend anyway but I don't want it to roll someplace where I can't ever get it out when I go to work. For anyone who has removed the softtop, is there anyplace the socket can roll to and not ever be retrieved? Also, how the hell do I remove the softtop? I was looking at it for a good 2 hours and couldn't even find where to start. Does anyone have any detailed instructions? Some please help!

Thanks

I took today off from work and need to get this resolved. I can't wait for a helm maual to be shipped. Does anyone know of any national chains or local shops that sell the helm?

I think Clovis did a DIY soft top replacement thread when he replaced his '00 top with an '02 top. If you can't find it, send him a PM.

Have you tried using one of those magnetic retriever thingys? Have you removed the spare tire and trunk trim to see if it is accessible from the trunk?

it's more towards the door... in fact I'm willing to bet it's just under/behind the latch that keeps the door closed. I've got the seats out and am working on the center console and rollbard. I can't get either of them out. Do you know how to get these pieces out? I think things will be much easier once those two are out of the way. I'll try to find the DIY thread.

Look for a DIY thread for Roll Cage installation. I'm sure they will contain the info you need.

THE SOFT TOP IS OUT AND THE HARD TOP IS IN!!! And more importantly the socket that I dropped is out.

Thanks for the help guys.

BTW... I'm selling the soft top and frame so spread the word if someone is interested. It's in perfect condition. My car is a MY02 w/ almost 15K miles, garage kept all its life and the top has only been down a handful of times. Basically brand new.

PM me if interested.
