Default New Convertible Top

Totally nervous... my top tore the other day and thank the lord its being covered by warranty ....

My appointment is for today. I called my service advisor to confirm that everything is good and he tells me

"bring the car in a day early"

"WHY ?"

"because we have never done one and it may take more than 8hours"

"WTF???? " !

I have no confidence going into this ... the next dealer is really far away ....

What do you say guys... am i worrying for nothing ?

as a side note the last time i was in the dealership about my roof the tech put the repair manual on the hood of my car to read the manual...

How far is "really far"? There are 4 Honda dealers closer to me than the one I take my S to (on the rare occasion that it actually has to go to the dealer).

I swapped my soft top and it took ~12 hours by myself. The instructions they used are probably no worse than what I used. 8 hours sounds about right but it's all about piece of mind I suppose. If you feel like you can't trust the guys at your dealership, drive further for peace of mind.

If they don't get it right, then take it back until they do. It's warranty. If it's not installed to your satisfaction, let them know you are going to open a case with Honda of America and try to get an experience technician to come out and install it.

mine was done by a custom shop on behalf of the body shop, long story...i had to bring it back a few times till they realized the top frame was bent by the people who broke into the car, trying to bend top open withno power! it will either work or not, and what you need to do it open andclose it multiple times with an eye to what the mechanism is doing durring the movement in relation to the top material, looking for potential scrapes, etc....i have used black electrical tape to cover the sharper edges of the mechanics, you can too.

it will either work 100% or it will not, there is no break in or adjustment period.

My daughter had her MY01 rag top replaced at the dealer, paid for by her insurance company. The rear (plastic) window cracked and they considered it a visibility/safety issue. The cost was about $3k but the deductible she had to pay was $250. Not a bad deal, but there is still a slight leak during heavy rain. She's still VERY pleased with the result.
