Default New Gear set

My new gear set is ready to go back in the car

Should I use non-synthetic gear oil for the break-in period or just use the good stuff (LE607)?

Thanks.

It really doesn't matter what you use as long as it's GL-5 rated and you dump it after about 1000 miles.

Thanks Xviper

I will find some cheaper stuff for the break-in then.

Any gear lube is not that expensive to begin with. Just get what's easiest for you to procure. I broke mine in with Mobil 1 75W90 and have been using it ever since. Fluid analysis has shown that the rear end has been doing just spectacular.

if you got 4.57 gears, make sure that the 3 heat cycles have been done before you drive the car like normal.

This has become a very popular gear lube, however, if you operate the car in cold climates, it is not recommended. Note Almasol's own website statement:
http://www.performanceproducts.com/Product...bricant&type=10

Also, I've always wondered about a product made by a bunch of guys who calls themselves "Lubrication Engineers" that they have never gotten an official "rating" for this fluid. I have never seen on the LE607, the "GL-5" rating that Honda requires.

My car's in the shop getting the 4.56 something's installed now. Should pick it up Monday or Tuesday.

Just out of curiousity, what did the fluid look like after 1000 miles? Was there a lot of debris/metal shavings?

Is the 1000 miles just a good round number? Any benefit to changing it sooner or later?
