This is more appearance but I had to open the hood to do it so I’m posting in here.
Just wrapped up a job that I thought would only take 2 hrs. By my wife’s multiplier (any job I say X3) it took me 6
now it was my first time taking the bumper off so I had to learn through that. Then my son begrudgingly assisted me into the late hrs last night.
I think if I had to do it again (and maybe with the help of my daughter) I could bang it out in hour, maybe less. All in all, happy with the results.
Just getting started. I used LHT’s trick of spraying wd40 in the seem below the fender. It helps the clips slide and keeps from breaking. Got dark and I needed to bust out the headlamp. I really struggled to get the new headlight into the fender. There was a sleeved wire getting in the way between the light and a body bracket. There are a few parts you need to swap over from the old lamp assembly. HID ballast and bulb transfer over. The Eagle Eye headlight come with orange blinker bulbs and the day time runner plugs into an led strip below the projector. Ballast Side by side comparison
The new lights are a world of difference. Not sure if I have a before pic but this picture doesn’t even capture how good the throw light. I was impressed. I don’t think I’ll ever replace this but it would make a great piece of wall art! We managed to lose 2x M6 bolts so I had to run to the store to grab a couple. Engine work is classified. Just needed a lick of paint on the hood latch. I had no intention to keep my SCCA stickers on from last year but I have been using it to stir up interest about the sport. I’ve had at least 4 people join my regional club since so I’m keeping them on for a while. Pretty dramatic improvement
I didn’t take any pics but the #3 Phillips head screws that secure the top of the bumper were hard to remove. Judging from the lack of marks on them, think this was the first time they had moved since assembly. My car lived by the water (bay/bayou, not as salty as beach front) and there was some rust on these bolts/screws. Also, the amount of crud that was under the rubber weather strip was unreal! We cleaned everything up and hit the metal bar with a bit of rust inhibiting paint for good measure.
the part I was referring to sits on this part of the frame. If you’ve never taken it off, this might be worth your time to have a look and see what it’s like under there.
