New Intake Solution
well I made the mistake of purchasing K&N filter, and the power lose was very apparent. especially here in south tx, where humidity is over 85% most of the time during the day. I installed Minster's CAI with impressive results, however with the K&N removed running open filter it still pulled so much harder. I was up one night thinking about how I could improve the breathing on the car and I came up with an idea... I remembered my Stillen Intake system for my maxima, with huge billet velocity stake style airhorn along with K&N with 6inch neck. here's apic
the airhorn has 4 holes in the backside originally designed to bolt on to factory nissan Mass air flow sensor.. so I had my muffler shop made me an adapter that consist of 5inch long 3.25 diameter pipe with a plate welded on the end then i drilled holes to match up with the airhorn and bolted it on. then I proceeded to mount the new intake in to the factory elbow and secured it with a hose clamp.
from visual point, you cannot tell that it's there with the airbox closed. it looks stock
performance wise, along with mingster CAI it made quite a bit if difference. remember, the main diff between stock replacement K&N and J R filter is built in velocity stack. that makes - + 1-2 horespower as seen in various dyno runs. throttle response is instant, low end torque is improved. and my god it pulls so much better in top end. I was out this weekend filter removed, pulled panti hose over the airhorn (keep gravel/bugs out, but does not affect flow) car was running meaner then ever. I belive the whole set up from stillen cost about 125- 150 (u can bargin) and the adapter costed me 15 bucks. considering just the filter alone costs 50-60 dollars I thought it was well worth it. calm down boys, pictures are coming soon

So are we keepning the K&N filters or going to something else? I feel like I wasted $50 for nothing. Has anyone talked to K&N? I am sure it was not their intent to make a non performing product.
Good question, what's the consensus? When my K&N went in we also modded the air box (removed the baffel and blocked the resonating chamber) so I got an improvement in sound and performance. Maybe I would have gotten a lot more had I not used the K & N?

I sent K&N a friendly e-mail today of how disappointed I was to find out their product lowered the horsepower of my car instead of raising it as their ads claim. I also asked them if they had any dyno results. Let's see if they answer me. I put the factory air filter back in and won't be so fast to spend my money until I really see some tests that prove a products claims.
