Thumbs up New S2000

I bought a brand new 2006 S2000 a little over a week ago. I have been taking it easy on it and breaking it in like I'm suposed to (not reving over 5k rpms + no hard acceleration). It currently has 1818 km (1129 mi). My percentage of oil left in the engine is 80%. Do I have a ploblem or is this normal?

Its normal...

The F20C/F22C engines can burn alot of oil till the rings/cylinders are broken in. Keep the engine topped off with oil.

And check it FREQUENTLY!!! At least every fill up if not more often.

After 5k to 10K miles it should stop burning oil.

That would be your percentage of oil LIFE remaining. You still need to check the oil level with the dip stick. AP2s are not known for burning oil with the exception of during the break in period. Mine, however used less than a quart over the first 5K miles. Still, you should be checking your oil level.

as stated, if you're reading the dash info and it states 80%, that's the oil's life indicator.

and again, check the oil level with the dipstick frequently during the break in period.

i am at 2100 miles, oil life is now at 60%(6 months old this month), and i have burned less than a 1/4 quart of oil.

mine has been broken in on the aggressive side...., sensible, but aggressive.

You top it off ONLY if you need to. You "need to" ONLY if you check the dipstick and it tells you that it is "LOW". You DON'T reset the oil minder till you do an oil change. You do an oil change when the oil minder reaches ZERO oil life left or when the OWNER'S MANUAL tells you to do it.

It is not percentage of oil volume, it is percentage of oil life remaining. As Xviper said, check your oil volume with dipstick, and only add oil if needed.

It is down a little on the dipstick. Slightly over the halfway point between LOW and HIGH.

My 2005 which I bought in Oct of 2004 has never needed more oil between changes. Perhaps it is the exception?
